Online games and malware
It happened once again. Only this time my son came to the rescue. My mother-in-law, who is great BTW, was having computer problems. She is not computer savvy so computer problems can mean almost anything. This time, it meant that there was a boatload of malware on her computer. Not viruses mind you, but tracking cookies, and all other sorts of nasties that track your habits. Using programs like ad-aware and ccleaner, we were able to get her back in shape.
The puzzler is we did this just a few weeks ago. Why all the dishonorable buglets? Turns out my neices and nephews like to go to the free flash game sites and at least one of these site was the culprit.
While no solution to block this malware, Firefox with ad-block goes a long way to keeping them at bay.
Nethax: "Nethax is an ajax implementation of said best video game ever made. It was created to help introduce the game to the legions of children who have no idea what a 'shell account' is. The creator also hopes it will allow him to play the game from work."
What is Nethack
From the land before 3DFX, before VGA graphics and DOOM, before the IBM PC, way back in the dark ages of Unixland, there was a game. They called it Rogue. People played it, and found it good. From this basis, Hack was born. Soon Hack became Nethack, because it was developed by many people (and has nothing to do with hacking the internet). And people played this on many machines, from Unices to Macs to PCs, due to the amazing power of Open Source Code.
Nethack is this amazingly simple yet additive game, although I like the
Slash'em version myself.
Conficker Eye Chart: "Conficker Eye Chart"
There has been a lot of talk around about the conficker work but not a lot of helpful information. The conficker eye chart can quickly show if you have a problem.
I sure hope they get the price down or something. This would be awesome!

DHTML Lemmings
Hi! Welcome to DHTML Lemmings! This is a remake of Lemmings™ all written in javascript. You will be needing a modern browser and a fairly fast PC to play this game. IE5.5+ or a recent Mozilla / Opera version and a 500+ Mhz processor should do, but more power is better :)
