Pick a topic
I have been testing out BlogExplosion to see if it is worthwhile. So far, it seems to be working out. As I was surfing member sites to generate credits for my other blog, I reached an inescapable conclusion: Bogs of random thoughts and gripes are boring. Even my very own Random Thoughts blog will be boring to the random reader. Note to self and others: Pick a topic. Like most people, I have things I am passionate about. Rather than lump them all into one blog about myself, I have broken them into blogs with different topics. This helps in a couple of ways. Someone looking for a joke won't have to dredge through my other ramblings on chess or religion to find something to laugh at. Remember that search engines lag behind postings so if I post a joke then chess comment in the same blog, the seeker of both the joke and the chess information will be disappoint with my blog. If I am looking for a joke and come across a page dedicated to humor, I am likely to stay there for a while. Another benefit of multiple blogs dedicated to a topic is it makes AdSense work better. I am often amused to see what AdSense displays on my random notes page. It rarely has anything to do with the topic of a given post, therefore it is rarely something I personally am interested in. By sticking on a topic, it will give better AdSense results with a higher chance of a person seeing something they may want to click on.
